Cowboy Star

So, we decided to try Cowboy Star for lunch today, with hopes of a delicious meal. Sadly, those hopes were dashed. First, the good - we were seated right away and had our choice of a booth or table. Choices are always a plus! The restaurant was clean and quiet and the tables were adorned with white linen table cloths and napkins.

When we were offered water, the waiter asked if tap water was okay or if we'd prefer sparkling or bottled water. I asked if the tap water was cold and was assured that yes, it was very cold. It wasn't. At all. I received a glass of ice upon request which immediately melted away into my warm water, but with a second serving of ice and a lemon, the water was at least refreshing.

When we ordered lunch, I ordered the steak and arugula salad for $12.95. The waiter asked me if that was all I was having, which was surprising since it was listed on the menu as an entree. Once it was delivered though, I could see why. It probably would have been more appropriate to list it under appetizers or side dishes. They placed a giant plate in front of me with a small pile of arugula and a few pieces of steak shoved way over to one corner. The rest of the plate sat sad and empty.

The arugula was dry, with a hint of dressing but no flavor. The steak was tough and flavorless as well. After asking for salt (which strangely wasn't already on the table) and extra dressing, I was able to add enough flavor to eat it.

My mom ordered the Reuben sandwich which at least, when paired with French fries, covered her whole plate. She said that it was okay, again lacking in flavor. Her food did come to the table hot and the French fries were crispy, so they get kudos for that.

About half way through our meal, a manager stopped by and asked how everything was. I replied that it wasn't great. She said "okay" and walked away. Clearly, she wasn't concerned about unhappy customers.

Our waiter was friendly and attentive and apologized for our less than stellar experience. We saw him speaking to the manager at one point but she never came back by or tried to rectify the situation. I am giving this visit two stars. We both left hungry and unsatisfied. Maybe the dinner menu is better, but at prices like theirs, I'm not willing to risk it.

On to next week! Where will we dine? Who knows! Eat well, Colorado!
